October (1)

Ken is one of the Nature Reserve volunteers who often puts in extra time, a one man working party.

It has been suggested that the hedge he is seen working on here should be extended downhill to incorporate the rest of the sloping area which is currently outside the field. The scrub would be removed, giving the ancient oak tree greater prominence. The same species would be used as before, namely hawthorn, field maple, dogwood, holly, hazel and spindle.

Our new dipping platform begins to take shape.
The second gabion has now been completed and the containing area begins to fill. Reed beds will be planted between the input pipe and the island.

The steep slope at the head of the lake here will be planted with a coppice mixture of hazel, hawthorn and field maple.
